Police arrest woman for burying own baby alive

Police in Akwa Ibom have arrested Patience Aaron of Afaha Abia village, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, for allegedly burying her day-old baby alive.

Briefing journalists in Uyo, the Commissioner of Police, Gabriel Achong, said the baby, who was buried in a shallow grave, was rescued alive about seven hours later.

He said the woman had been seriously ill since she was arrested and was receiving treatment.
